Y(eah) Y(eah) Y(eah) -

Origin: The etymology of this phrase is deeply rooted in the tradition of the

American Afro-culture found in the Deep South. An astute language

aficionado in Ms. Failla's sixth period Business Law class observed this

verbal anomaly and took note of its potential. With his landmark

discovery, a new age, one could almost say the Pax Romana of

linguistics, has dawned upon the civilized world. Surprisingly there has

been recent criticism of “yyy.” In response, a direct quote from the

aforementioned scholar:

"Although some might argue that this phrase, due to its multi-

dimensional nature, will bring forth the corruption to the integrity and

structure of the English language, that it will replace other terms in a

‘nonsensical’ fashion and thereby rendering the language devoid of

meaningful words, well, to that I say.....…hmm…hmm…hmm…

hmm………….hmm… yeah, yeah, yeah!”

Alex Y.

Needless to say, the clear superiority of the phrase is obvious in its

being quickly and expertly adopted into a concise yet powerful rebuttal.

Meaning: The leading researcher and authority in the field has reached the

general consensus that “yeah yeah yeah” is a loose translation of “I

strongly agree” in ebonics. However, the hallmark of the phrase is

precisely its ability to transcend the language and incorporate many

different meanings. Among those officially recognized are a consent of

quiet acceptance, a cry of triumphant exclamation, a polite “you’re

welcome” to an expression of gratitude, a sigh of sympathy, a shout of

mutual joy, a heartwarming “hi,” an unforgettable “good-bye” (not to

mention a mild yet resounding diss), in short, simply a beginning and

an……..yyy
