studying with alex, annie, scott, and jon-erik for the government test tomorrow.
part of the test requires knowing all of the 27 amendments of the constitution..
this is what we came up with for each one..
I. freedoms are most important -- just remember it.
II. 2 arms, so you have the right to bear arms.
III. 3 is before 4, 4 quarters in a dollar, you can't be forced to quarter soldiers.
IV. don't "fort" (fart) too hard, or you'll have a seizure. no unreasonable searches or seizures.
V. ENRON has 5 letters. enron people pleaded the 5th - can't incriminate yourself.
VI. speedy 6! right to a speedy trial!
VII. 7 dwarves = trial by jury.
VIII. if the gov't chops off both of your thumbs, it would be cruel and unusual punishment, which leaves you with 8 fingers.
IX. pregnant for 9 months, retain baby for 9 months, people retain certain rights.
X. there was originally 10 states before there were 13, any powers not given to federal gov't belong to the states.
XI. hold out 2 index fingers for 11, and use both to plug your ears b/c federal courts cant HEAR cases lodged against state by citizen of another state.
XII. 12 is a 1 and a 2, president and VP run together as 1.
XIII. slaves were pretty unlucky (unlucky #13) to hafta be slaves; slaves are freed.
XIV, XV slaves become citizens to vote.
XVI. get a job when you're 16, hafta pay federal income tax.
XVII. at 17, you're almost 18, so you can almost vote; senators are elected directly by people.
XVIII. at 18 you wanna drink, but you can't -- prohibition.
XIX. 19 = hot chicks; women suffrage.
XX. january 20 is inauguration date; prez and VP begin terms then.
XXI. you can drink at 21! repeals XVIII.
XXII. 22 is 2 and 2, president can only serve for 2 terms.
XXIII. michael jordan, #23 on the washington wizards in DC, can vote (DC people can vote).
XXIV. 24 -- you don't have to pay a tax 2 vote 4 the president!
XXV. i got 25 lightas on my dressa, yes suh, i gotz tah succeed.. (presidential succession)
XXVI. (26 + 10) / 2 = 18; lowers voting age to 18
XXVII. congress can no longer raise their own income, so they stopped making amendments.
yeah, i bet only the 6 people in this room with me are gonna understand any of this..
