confident vs. cocky

'tis one of the biggest mysteries of life. what is the difference between being confident and being cocky. or, better yet, as many ask, IS there a difference at all?

well, of course there is a difference. to be confident means to be marked by assurance, as of success. on the other hand, to be cocky means to be overly self-assertive.

of course, society has made "confidence" the most important aspect of a person's character. job recruiters desperately seek "confident" people. girls look for "confident" guys.

so where do i stand on this? i actually have no idea. i have been told that i am both confident and cocky. does that make sense?

so where lies this fine line between confidence and cockiness?
