no more leftovers

for the past week, i've had a particular song stuck in my head. for you bsb haters out there, worry not. today is your lucky day -- it's "if i ain't got you," by alicia keys.

Some people live for the fortune
Some people live just for the fame
Some people live for the power yeah
Some people live just to play the game
Some people think that the physical things
Define what's within
And I've been there before
But that life's a bore
So full of the superficial

Some people want it all
But I don't want nothing at all
If it ain't you baby
If I ain't got you baby
Some people want diamond rings
Some just want everything
But everything means nothing
If I ain't got you

Some people search for a fountain
The promises forever young
Some people need three dozen roses
And that's the only way to prove you love them

Hand me a world on a silver platter
And what good would it be?
With no one to share, with no one who truly cares for me

Some people want it all
But I don't want nothing at all
If it ain't you baby
If I ain't got you baby
Some people want diamond rings
Some just want everything
But everything means nothing
If I ain't got you, you, you

Some people want it all
But I don't want nothing at all
If it ain't you baby
If I ain't got you baby
Some people want diamond rings
Some just want everything
But everything means nothing
If I ain't got you

If I ain't got you with me baby
Nothing in this whole wide world don't mean a thing
If I ain't got you with me baby

aside from the obvious romantic aspect of this song, i believe that it really sends out a good message. what are YOU living for?

i stole this idea from johnny lin, but we should just substitute "JESUS" for everytime the word "BABY" shows up in the song. i mean, that's as true as it gets, right?

Some people want it all
But I don't want nothing at all
If it ain't you JESUS
If I ain't got you JESUS
Some people want diamond rings
Some just want everything
But everything means nothing
If I ain't got you

or at least that's how it's supposed to be.

so i was doing my quiet times the other day, and i've started to read "seeds of spiritual growth" by allan harkness. he introduces the first chapter of the book with this quote by malcolm muggeridge:

"the true purpose of our existence in this world is, quite simply, to look for God, and in looking, to find him, and having found Him, to love Him..."

sometimes i feel like so many people just don't get it -- myself included. through our busy schedules and seemingly hectic lives, we sometimes lose focus of our purpose. i find myself worrying about scheduling my time between fun and work, yet i fail to consider how neglected God must feel when i leave him my "leftover" time at the end of the day.

i'm sorry, God. no more leftovers.
