NYCSB

new york city spring break.

our flight was supposed to be at 7:30pm monday, but when we got to the gate it had been delayed til 8:00. the waiting area was rather full, and i don't think my brother likes sitting next to strangers, so we sat at a neighboring gate. there was an intercom system that was blasting information about all the surrounding gates, so we figured it would notify us of any changes in the flight schedule. at 7:45 or so, we went back to check, and watched as the flight got delayed from 8:00 to 8:45. with a sigh, we headed back to our seats. at about 8:25 i went back again to check. imagine my disbelief when the gate no longer said new york, but new orleans. this has gotta be some sorta joke, right? the waiting area was still bustling with people. so i go to check the monitors displaying all the flight schedules, and my flight is nowhere to be seen.

what's going on? where'd everybody go? am i being punk'd?

i head back to the gate and ask the lady where all the peoples at. she asks to see my ticket, looks it over, then hands it back to me, saying the plane had already taken off.

i wasn't sure whether to laugh or sob. so i laughed, and headed back to where jason was waiting.

me: let's go, we missed our flight.
jason: no we didn't.
me: seriously, we missed our flight. it took off already.
jason: no.
me: our flight's gone!
jason: i don't believe you.

well i guess seeing is believing cuz a few minutes later he was laughing too. i mean, what am i, the boy who cried wolf or something? why would anyone not believe me?

so we go to the service desk and i told the lady there about our situation. she told me that all flights going into jfk were booked for the rest of the week. AWESOME! but she told me i could standby for a flight into a different airport leaving within an hour. i questioned how long the standby list was. she said it was very lengthy. AWESOME!

as another lady was helping jason print his standby ticket, she asked what had happened to make us miss our flight. we had explained everything in rather full detail to the first lady, but she simplified things by saying, "they were at the wrong gate."

i have never felt so smart in my life.

miraculously we end up getting the last 2 tickets onto the flight, even though we were on the 3rd page of the list. what are the odds?

details are tiring. i think pictures will suffice for the rest of this post, alongside brief descriptions.

boston university looks like my brother's top choice, so we visited the campus. my brother is convinced that the person who took the 2nd picture for us left thinking we were partners, if you know what i mean.

i don't think i could ever work or live in new york city. it's just too busy for my taste. i mean you spend just a little time down in the subway and you realize that the city is just too fast-paced and busy for anyone to take the time to take pictures like this.

we also did a bit of shopping there. this is the stylish jacket that i purchased. i like it.

overall it was a very enjoyable trip. much thanks to our host, eddie, and all the people we met up with there, who will probably never venture to read this blog.
