new year's resolutions

so this year, as with every year, i have decided to make some new year's resolutions for myself. i can't even remember any other resolutions ive made in the past, so hopefully you'll be able to help me keep my resolutions this year.

1. quiet time every day
2. read for fun
3. be more patient

so there you have it, plain and simple. happy now?

j/k anyways, today marks my last day in sugar land for...who knows how long. i'll be back for sure during spring break, but as far as any quick trips home between now and march, i have no idea.

i guess you could say today was a good "last day in sugar land" day. as far as details are concerned, i believe some things are best left unsaid.

anyhow, for those of you staying here in sugar land, i'll see you guys and gals in a couple of months. for those of you coming with me to UT, i'll see you guys and gals in a couple of days. for those of you elsewhere, i'll just see you when i see you.

the game of life

life is an interesting thing, is it not?

i mean, for real, it's funny how so much can change in just a matter of weeks.

a few weeks ago, finals week was killing me and i was happy to finally be home. now, im totally perplexed as to how sugar land has kept me entertained for the past 19 years of my life, and im actually looking forward to going back to UT.

a few weeks ago, i was in the middle of a deep spiritual rut with only a few sporadic quiet times with God to give me hope. now, ive gotten back into the habit of doing devotions every night, and my prayer life is up and running.

a few weeks ago, being accused of reading a book for my own pleasure would cause me to hide my face in disgust. now, im so flooded with books that need to be read that reading has become somewhat of a hobby.

how the tides have turned.

a few days ago, peter and i went out searching for the ultimate board game. you know what im talking about. the game of endless fun. the one that never gets old, the one that is always full of surprises, the one that will forever keep you guessing. needless to say, we weren't able to find this perfect game, so we settled for sequence.

but anyhow, this really got me thinking. with all its twists and turns, life has turned into quite the board game. ok, maybe im kind of stretching the metaphor, but im sure you follow me.

you know, for the first time, i think ive come to a realization as to where i stand in this game of life. all the pieces have been played up to this point, and while it stinks knowing that i can't start all over, or even go back a few spaces on the gameboard, it's reassuring to know that what they say is true: tomorrow is the first day of the rest of your life.

so ive given up on the thought of a rewind button, sadly enough. the remote control idea is still in the back of my head though, but now im just asking for a simple slow button.

i mean, if one semester of college could pass by so quickly, what more could pass me by with just a few more blinks of my eye?

tell me if im making any sense.

ACCESS: DENIED

so today i woke up at 10 AM to go take jason to his orthodontist appointment. at about 11:30, i picked up peter so we could go visit clements for lunch. as peter, jason, and i entered the building, we were greeted by mr. yaffie.

yaffie: hey, where've you been?
me: huh?
yaffie: where are you going?
me: uh..we're going to sign in to visit?
yaffie: nope. sorry, closed campus.
me: your mom's a closed campus.

ok j/k i didn't say that. although i wish i did, because that woulda been sweet. but instead, peter and i just left the "closed campus" and got a new video game to satisfy our disappointment.

so, sorry to everyone at clements who would have liked a random visit from two bored college kids. i think mr. yaffie is onto us.

note to self: next time bring bribe money for mr. yaffie.

ok fine i'll post something. tomorrow. i promise. stay tuned!
