now that's a cool feeling.
about two weeks ago, i went to a POP meeting and met a guy named john. we broke up into groups, and when his turn came to share prayer requests, he told us about a situation going on in nueva laredo, mexico.
he had gone there on a missions trip, and things had been amazing. the small community welcomed their team, and during their stay, they helped construct an entire church building for pastor pedro and the congregation. they left the town in high spirits, for they knew that the people there now had a place to gather together and worship the one and only God.
but things had gone downhill since their departure. it turns out that the land that the church had been built on was not actually their land to begin with. so they had no choice but to stand by and watch weeks and months of hard work get trampled by bulldozers, and unfortunately, some of their hopes crumbled as well.
the past couple weeks i've been thinking about what i would do in that situation. would i just be angry with God? would i question His wisdom, His will? i mean, it all seemed so "right," didn't it? so much prayer and planning and everything going into building this church, and now all of a sudden, it's all gone. and sad to say, it feels like all that effort was in vain.
yesterday after large group, i had a chance to talk to melvin about the whole situation. i expected him to give me some typical, watered-down christian response about how the circumstances have pulled the community closer together or something of that sort, but what he told me totally trumped anything i could have even imagined.
he told me that after the church had gotten destroyed, some government official caught wind of the story, and he decided to donate some of his PERSONAL LAND to pastor pedro to build a new church home.
and that was the end of that conversation because i couldn't muster up anything else to say except "wow."
