james bond

you know, i could be 007. easy.

what an exciting life, huh? not too stressful either, minus the killing part. but then again, secret agents always seem so aloof. yep, that's an SAT word.

saw casino royale with ophelia tonight, and it was a rather good movie, if i might say so myself. if you haven't seen it, you probably shouldn't read this next sentence. or the one after that. or this. WHY DID THE GIRL HAVE TO DIE? ophelia insists that she felt too guilty. but, come on, now. killing herself? that's a bit extreme, is it not? they have therapy sessions and stuff for that sort of thing, don't they?

i've heard quite a few knocks on this new bond fellow. one of them was that he is too clean-shaven. like, his entire body. do y'all really want a robin williams as bond? that'd be kinda weird. i think daniel craigh is a good fit for the character. OH, and speaking of hair/fur, remember that one scene near the end of the movie where they are chilling on the beach? that whole scene, for like 5 minutes, the guy's chest hair ala alex yang style if you know what i mean just took up half the screen. i mean, we were seated in the 2nd row, so those strands were really all up in our grills. do si wo de face, ya heard?

so bottom line, 8 thumbs up (out of a possible 10).

hibachi!

let me take a moment to share with you the story of my favorite non-Rocket basketball player, agent zero.

some of you may know him by his alias, gilbert arenas. he is in his 6th year in the NBA, and he plays point guard for the washington wizards.

the reason he wears the number 0 is that when he showed up at the university of arizona, all his homies told him that was the number of minutes he'd be getting on the court. gil still wears the number as a reminder of his humble beginnings.

arenas is a real cool guy. you can tell by just reading his blog, which i've been reading for about a month now. just a down-to-earth, fun-loving son of a gun. here's a short excerpt.

I brang out the hibachi against Dallas. That’s when I first started saying it, that I was the "hibachi."

It was some legal terms with one of my teammates. I had to buy the name from him. Brendan Haywood, he takes all the good names and waits for someone to buy it, so I had to buy the hibachi grill from him.

He’s been saying it, like if somebody did it to us he would be like, “Oh man, you got the hibachi grill tonight.”
so i guess i can help to decipher this quote to some of you. this is a hibachi grill:

it gets real hot. like his jumpshot.

Me and Antawn turned on the hibachi grill and we was cookin’.

Every time I make it, every time I shot the ball, I screamed out, “Hibachi!”
still don't get it? well fear not. i got this shirt delivered to me a couple days ago, so it might help to clear some things up:

zero to hero, baby. zero to hero. HIBACHI!

the first day

i wore my own dress clothes today. for the past semester, whenever i have had to dress up for a presentation or something, my outfit would be an ensemble of items of clothing from my penthouse neighbors. it didn't work out especially well, especially once when i borrowed a red shirt from hao and khakis from jonathan, and ellen said i looked like a kid right out of st. austin's, the catholic school right across from lantern lanes.

but today is a new day of a new year, and i finally had my own clothes up here in austin. and i looked good.

what did i dress up for? for my first day at work at kpmg austin, duh. work today consisted of filling out paperwork, getting a laptop, and scarfing down a free lunch. all in a day's work, eh?

today i earned $200 pre-tax. i'll take it.

reading rainbow

i can fly twice as high! it's in a book, just take a look! reading rainbow!

so i'm back from urbana, but i guess you could say i still need some time to process through what transpired in st. louis. so in the meantime, i'll share one of my new year's resolutions.

at urbana 2003, peter and i bought a combined 30 or so books. at the start of urbana 2006, we realized that we had read a combinied 2.42 of those books in 3 years.

then i recently discovered that people actually read. it's not just some ancient thing that people used to do when there was nothing better to occupy their time.

i think i've been averaging about a book and a half a year. but this year, it's time to up the ante to a book a season. any recommendations? let's start a book trade club thingie. anyone interested?
