He knew the words that would spill out of her mouth before even a whisper escaped her lips. He tried to look her in the eyes but found it to be damn near impossible, so he gazed out the window, desperately hoping for something, anything, to catch his attention and distract his thoughts.

It was at that blurry-eyed moment when his world shifted. Everything became nothing. All the past arguments seemed petty; all the hope for improvement, tardy; all the future plans, pointless.

He didn't know how to react, so he did the only thing he could -- he left.
