1st is the worst, 2nd is the best?

sophomore slump? maybe, just maybe it's true. i came in knowing there would be some trouble, some drama, but as always, the good times outweigh the bad.

i think this was the year i learned the most. or the year that really got me pulled back down to earth. i figured out that i'm really not perfect. actually, i'm nowhere even close, but little by little, i learned that that was okay.

this is the year we took over a hallway. jester 5th floor, on the side opposite what used to be called chinatown -- the elevators.

IM football was awesome. on a team led by simeon and weili, just let the good times roll. remember that one night when we pulled a mattress out into the hallway to practice touchdown celebrations and/or front flips? and then we moved it to the elevators to get more room? good times.

oh the wrestling. or at least this one glorious night. me, simon, and xiao, wwf style, with peter as the cameraman. chokeslams, clotheslines, chest slaps, pedigrees, and frog splashes all over the place. i don't think i've ever sweated so much in my life. the night finally ended when xiao stepped on a banana.

and let's just call this year the year of the birthdays, because those are the moments i remember best from my sophomore year. starting with..

peter's birthday. i don't remember how, but we got a good number of people out to jester courtyard in the middle of a frosty night to try to spell out "happy bday" with our bodies. i'm not sure if it worked out too well, but you can be the judge of that. after that, we went to make ice cream for his birthday. most of it tasted good. the rest, let's just say it's not worth it eating bad ice cream when you're already lactose-intolerant.

my birthday was like talent show part 1. well, there certainly were enough acts for it. it was like a surprise skit night or something, and man, did i feel loved. from songs to skits to even a video feed, it was a great night. it was funny too, because i remember i didn't even know half of the freshmen who were there. they were probably like, who died and left this guy in charge?

jenny's birthday? haha usually i would say no to a bunch of half-naked guys, but for this idea (i can't remember who thought it up), i just couldn't turn it down. perfectly planned, perfectly executed. i especially loved meson's contribution.

spring break in jackson, mississippi. great bonding time with the boys. and rachelle, being the only aacm girl there. i think we probably scared her off a bit. i just remember john sleeba constantly coming in to our rooms when we were piled on one bed resting with a camera in hand and a goofy smile. i think he meant to use those pics as blackmail later on, not knowing that everyone already knew we were like this. funny guy.

let's get back to the birthdays. mr. phillip lee time! here's a recap. some kids brought him up to the top of the jester parking garage where there was a car. phil, knowing it was his birthday, thought they were going to some ice cream place, where he would get "surprised" there. so they're walking up to the car, and lex just happened to be in crutches since he had injured himself earlier that week, and he asked phil to put his crutches in the trunk of the car. so phil pops open the trunk, only to find a screaming jenny wong with 2 water balloons in hand. "aaahhhh!" she yelled. it was a battlecry reminiscient of braveheart, as water balloons started raining in from the overhanging bridge. then more cries as people pour out the side of the garage, eager for some destruction of their own. and just when phil thought the party was over, 4 people with bags of flour in hand douse him head to toe. so THAT'S how you make dough. thanks phil.

then finally there's xiao. apparently i did not know this guy at all, because i never thought that this plan even had a chance to work. so titus started playing starcraft with xiao on his birthday, and then this girl named xxlilangelxx joins too. they play for a while, and then chat in between games. long story short, titus convinces xiao to invite the girl, "eyvonne," to jcl for a late snack. she obliges, and says that she will be wearing red. so xiao heads downstairs and into the courtyard, only to find all of his friends wearing red and laughing hysterically at him. then he finds out that eyvonne is really alex fan. you know, i would feel sorry for the kid, but no, i just can't bring myself to do it. i don't know him.

man all this stuff was so long ago, i can't believe it. let's just end this segment with, what else, senior farewell. it's crazy the stuff peter and i can come up with late at night with nothing to do. but it's even crazier how people will go along with it. the place was definitely alive with the sound of sophomores, as we performed our first musical -- the sound of music. matching unis, 4 songs, it was cute. just like our class. cute.

man i don't know if i can do many more of these posts. these things are bringing back some tear-jerking memories.
